Taunton Marathon 201828/04/2018
Thank you to all leaders, parents and children that manned the 3 mile drinks station for the Marathon on Sunday 8 April, as well as the sponge station on Staplegrove Road. It was hugely appreciated by all participants! By the time we had collected all the bottles, finished with the sponge station, packed everything away and taken it back to Huish Woods it was 6.30pm - a long day! |
St. George's Day Parade 201724/04/2017
One of the highlights in the district calendar is the annual St. George's Day parade, which this year fell on the day itself, Sunday 23 April. As always, the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts in attendance looked smart and behaved impeccably, so a big well done to them. It is always nice to see other Scout groups, reminding the children Scouting is not confined to just Staplegrove, as well as the Guides, Brownies, Rainbows, cadets, majorettes and CCF. |

Taunton Marathon 201724/04/2017
For many years now the group have been running a drinks station and a sponge station for runners of both the half and full Taunton Marathon. This year the event took place on Sunday 2 April, where over 30 young people and adults turned up to help. It was a lovely sunny morning, and many of the runners greatly appreciated the 3 mile refreshment stop, thanking the children as they came past. Thank you to everyone that helped, you are all a great credit to Staplegrove. |

23/02/2017
The weekend of 18/02/2017-19/02/2017 saw the first ever Scout Shooting Camp take place in Charmouth, Dorset. The weekend was predominantly spent at The Tunnel Target Sports Centre, where the Scouts were able to shoot with a number of rifles that they would not normally be able to access, making this a truly unique and memorable experience for them. In addition the Scouts visited Charmouth Beach on Saturday afternoon to fossil hunt, and spent the evening having a traditional Scouting campfire before spending the night in tunnel pods. A hugely enjoyable weekend was had by all that attended. Thank you to Adrian and Gerry for organising, with assistance from Andrew, Charlie and Dan. |
Ice Skating 201606/12/2016
Monday 5th December saw all three sections from Staplegrove plus their families take to the Ice at Hestercombe House for the annual whole group Christmas celebration. It was an extremely enjoyable and successful night once again, with both children and adults entering into the Christmas spirit! A special Scouting 'BRAVO' to Gerry for organising the evening and making sure it ran so smoothly. May we take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and we look forward to another fun filled year of adventure with you in 2017! |

Remembrance Sunday 201614/11/2016
Thank you to all the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts that represented the group at this years Remembrance Sunday Service, held on Sunday 13th November at St. John's Church, Staplegrove. We only ask for attendance at two parades a year, the other being St. George's Day, and so thank you again to everyone that managed to attend for this important occasion. It is always nice to receive positive comments from members of the congregation on our smart uniform and attendance, which shows the group in a positive light. |

Staplegrove from above!14/11/2016
Over the weekend of our annual bonfire & fireworks display 04/11/2016- 06/11/2016 a drone was sent up high over the skies of Staplegrove, both during the daytime and in the evening during the display itself, to capture all the action! Please see below the amazing footage, which truly does capture Staplegrove and our famous display at an angle never witnessed before! A huge thank you to Ollie Hull for providing the footage, and Geoff Budd for providing the images, all credit goes to them. All future videos will be uploaded to our new youtube channel, so please ensure you are subscribing to us: www.youtube.com/channel/UCF34rQTKw_ShahiajwkvFCg |

Bonfire & Fireworks Display 201614/11/2016
Saturday 5th November saw our annual bonfire & fireworks display take place in the village. Apart from thanking once again all the local businesses and local residents for their support, the Scout Group would also like to thank everyone who turned up and supported us on the night. The amount of people in the field was the highest it has been for a number of years, resulting in us being able to record a healthy profit. The money raised will be used to continue to offer an exciting and varied programme of activities for all the children in our group. It will also allow our young people to have fun, experience new challenges and of course earn a variety of different badges for them to wear on their uniform with pride! Money will also be used to carry out some much needed repairs to the hut, allow us to continue to update and renew camping equipment and upgrade our 'unique hut' with some better heating and sound insulation! |

Taunton Carnival 201621/10/2016
Thank you to all Cubs, Scouts, Parents and Leaders that helped collect money and give out flyers for our upcoming bonfire & fireworks display at Taunton Carnival last weekend (15th October). The event is great publicity for us, and some of the money collected will benefit the group, along with many other good causes around Taunton. A special thank you must go to Martin Nelson, Martin Allen, James Nelson, Simon Lacey, Chris Owen, Andrew Knight and Jim Read for constructing the float and putting in all the work behind the scenes, and to Moira Read for providing the coffee and biscuits which were greatly appreciated! |

Huish Woods Working Party21/10/2016
Thank you to all the willing volunteers that helped with the working day at our campsite at Huish Woods on Saturday 10th September, in preparation for the BBB camp at the end of September. There is still plenty of work to be done before the site is finished, including the building of a new undercover cooking and eating area, but it is a big improvement on recent years and the whole group are now able to make full use of this valuable facility. Thank you once again to all that have given their time and effort to this project to date. |

16/07/2016
This year's District Cub Camp fell on the weekend of the 8th-10th July at Huish Woods, with a theme of decades to mark 100 years of Cub Scouts. A fun filled weekend was had by all, with activities including pillow wars, boat making, a tug of war (like you've never seen it before!), a remake of the highly popular tv series Crackerjack (complete with Cabbages!), a WW11 quiz and a beach party. Other highlights included a group campfire on the Saturday night, where every group performed at least one sketch or song, and three wide games. The camp closed on Sunday afternoon with Cubs Own, giving everyone a chance to reflect on a fantastic weekend. Thank you to the District Team for putting on such a successful camp, and to the leaders and helpers that gave up their weekend to help. |
Taunton Marathon 201621/05/2016
Thank you to everyone that gave up their Sunday morning to help 'run' our two drinks and sponge stations for the Taunton Marathon on Sunday 3rd April. We have never had so much help! It is a great way of giving something back to the community and an event we always enjoy helping with. All the runners did an excellent job and I'm sure appreciated the support and enthusiasm from our young people! |
Osmington Bay 201621/05/2016
The weekend of the 11th-13th March 2016 marked the first ever whole group camp for Staplegrove, which took place at PGL Osmington Bay in Weymouth. This location provided the perfect base for the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to try their hand at activities including archery, climbing, abseiling and dragon boat racing. The huge high ropes course complete with zip wire, Jacob's ladder and giant swing was also hugely popular, and the views over Weymouth and Portland from the top weren't bad either! It's fair to say the camp proved to be extremely successful, with every single adult and young person attending already asking when we are returning! Plans for a similar camp next year are already in the planning stages, so watch this space. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at PGL for providing us with a truly memorable first group camp, but also to all our young people who remained enthusiastic and superbly behaved throughout the weekend and were an asset to Staplegrove. |
